Ansar Battalion recovers stolen copper cables worth Tk 6 lakh from Matarbari Power Plant

Members of the Cox's Bazar Ansar Battalion (1 BN) recovered approximately 250 kilograms of stolen heavy copper electrical cables valued at Tk 6 lakh from the Seven Jetty area of the Matarbari 1,200 MW Ultra Super Critical Coal-Fired Power Plant in Maheshkhali.
The recovery took place at approximately 11:40 PM on Friday, when Sepoy Md. Mosharaf Hossain of Cox's Bazar Ansar Battalion (1 BN) spotted several individuals attempting to move electrical cables out of the Seven Jetty area inside the power plant complex.
Sepoy Mosharaf Hossain alerted Sepoy Abdul Jalil, who was stationed on guard duty at the main gate, and the two Ansar personnel pursued the suspects to intercept the stolen property.
Faced with immediate pursuit by the Ansar members, the suspects abandoned the copper cables and fled the scene. Ansar personnel secured the site and retrieved approximately 250 kilograms of thick copper wiring.
The recovered electrical cables were subsequently handed over to the Matarbari Power Plant authorities on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
Members of the Ansar Battalion continue to guard key state infrastructure and strategic installations across the country, including the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, airports, and power stations, ensuring public safety and preventing theft of national assets.
