Barisal District Police held a press conference on the overall situation and the latest progress of the investigation into the attack, vandalism and assault on police personnel at Agailjhara Police Station based on false rumors.

The press briefing was held at the Barisal District Police Auditorium on August 26.

Barishal District Superintendent of Police A, Z, M Mostafizur Rahman presented the overall situation at the press conference. Additional DIG (Crime and Ops) of the Range DIG Office Md. Humayun Kabir was present as the chief guest at the event. In addition, Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Mr. Alaul Hasan, senior officers of the district police and journalists from local print and electronic media were present.

On July 8, 2026, Agailjhara Police arrested Riaz Fakir, an accused in multiple cases.

While in police station custody, Riaz Fakir himself pretended to be ill by banging on the iron door. He was first admitted to Agailjhara Upazila Health Complex and later to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for treatment. There, the conspirators spread "false rumors of Riaz Fakir's death."

A mob of 200-300 people, acting on rumors, suddenly attacked the police station. The miscreants seriously injured the duty officer, vandalized furniture and stole a laptop. A total of 4 police personnel were injured in the incident.

60 people people on indictment and 17 people found during investigation and 32 people surrendered to court until 16 August.

The Superintendent of Police said that a charge sheet will be filed in court against the real culprits very soon after a thorough analysis of the video footage and other evidence.
