Daily Newsage journalist Yasmin Reema and Dainik Dinkal journalist Shahazada Emran have been elected President and General Secretary respectively of 19 member Executive Committee of Bangladesh Journalists Association, Cumilla District Unit for the term 2026-2028.

The new committee was announced after the Annual General Meeting of Bangladesh Journalists Association Comilla district at Gumti Touch in Cumilla on Saturday afternoon.

Since there was no rival panel, the Election Commission declared the Reema -Shahzada panel elected unopposed.

Chief Election Commissioner Prof Dr. Md. Abdul Latif officially announced the names of the new committee members. At that time, two other members of the Election Commission, Principal Shariful Islam and Jamil Ahmed Khandaker, were present. When the name of the new committee was announced, the journalists and members present supported and congratulated them with applause.

The newly elected committee includes Omar Farooqui Taposh of CTV News 24.com as the vice-president. Khaled Saifullah of Ajna TV has been appointed as the joint general secretary. Abul Khair of Daily Jugantor and RTV has been elected as the organizing secretary, and Syed Ahmed Lavlu of Daily Brahmanpara-Burichang Sangbad has been appointed as the co-organizing secretary.

Rezaul Karim Russel of Daily Sangram has been appointed as the finance secretary. Tanvir Dipu of Independent TV has been appointed as the office secretary. Masud Alam of Ajna TV has been appointed as the publishing secretary. Rubel Majumdar of Nagorik TV has been appointed as the publicity secretary.

In addition, Mujibur Rahman Mukul of Daily Cumillar Zamin has been appointed as the information and technology secretary. Asif Manna of Weekly Megoti has been appointed as the entertainment secretary. Shamsul Alam Rajan of Daily Cumillar Zamin has been appointed as Cultural Secretary, and Sohaibul Islam Sohag of Asia Post has been appointed as Sports Secretary.

Rafiqul Islam Chowdhury Khokon of Jamuna TV, Delwar Hossain Akaid of Daily Ajker Patrika and BSS, photojournalist NK Ripon of Daily Samakal, Zahid Hasan Naim of Somora Kanthaswar and Hridoy Hasan of Comilla's Zamin Online have been appointed as executive members of the new committee.

Earlier, the AGM of the association was held with Yasmin Reeme in the chair. President of Cumilla District of Bangladesh Journalists Association and moderated by General Secretary Shahazada Emran.

The meeting discussed the organizational activities of the association, various issues of the members and future work plans.

25 out of a total of 29 members of the Cumilla District of Bangladesh Journalists Association were present in the meeting.

Among the members present at the AGM were Nazrul Islam Dulal, Abul Khair, Rafiqul Islam Chowdhury Khokon, Omar Farooqui Taposh, Syed Ahmed Lavlu, Dil Rubaiyat Sourvi, Delwar Hossain Akaid, Abdur Rahman, Rezaul Karim Russell, Masud Alam, Rubel Majumder, Mujibur Rahman Mukul, Asif Manna, Shamsul Alam Rajan, Sohaibul Islam Sohag, Abu Hanif Majumder, Mohiuddin Bhuiyan, Ayesha Akhter, Zahid Hasan Naim, Hridoy Hasan, Monir Hossain and other members.

After the meeting, the process of electing a new executive committee was completed under the supervision of the Election Commission. As there was no other panel or candidate, 19 members of the Rima-Shahzada panel were declared elected unopposed.

It is mentioned that journalist Yasmin Reeme has been serving as the president of Bangladesh Journalists Association Comilla district since 2018. On the other hand, journalist Shahazada Emran has been serving various important responsibilities of the organization since 2006.

The members of the association have expressed satisfaction with the continuity of the same leadership in the new term. The newly elected president and general secretary have expressed their determination to further accelerate the activities of the organization, protect the professional interests of journalists and play an effective role in the welfare of members.

The members of the organization hope that with the election of the new committee, new momentum will be given to the organizational activities of Bangladesh Journalists Association Cumilla district.

Besides , the concerned parties have also expressed their expectation that the organization will play a more effective role in promoting mutual unity among journalists working in Cumilla, increasing professional skills and protecting the rights and dignity of journalists.
