The first formal meeting of the Executive Council of the Bangladesh Independent Journalists Society (BIJS) was held on Sunday at its office at UTC Bhaban located at Panthapath in the capital. Those concerned thanked Allah Almighty for holding the meeting in a fair and beautiful environment.

Bangladesh Independent Journalists Society (BIJS) is an independent, non-political, non-profit and professional organization of journalists. The organization's founder and organizing president is Jobayer Nobel and its general secretary is Saiduzzaman Selim.

The meeting discussed the organization's future work plan, constitutional activities, membership policies, organizational structure, and various issues related to expanding its activities nationwide. In addition, important exchange of views was held on the professional rights, safety, welfare, skill development of journalists, and the organization's role in practicing responsible journalism.

According to the organization's declared mission, the main commitment of the Bangladesh Independent Journalists Society is to build an accountable, transparent and democratic Bangladesh through truthful, fair and objective journalism and to ensure the rights, safety and professional dignity of journalists.

The meeting placed special emphasis on establishing independent, impartial and information-based journalism. At the same time, discussions were held on increasing public awareness to prevent fake news, propaganda and rumors, organizing training, seminars and workshops for journalists, and training and developing journalists in AI journalism in line with the times.

In addition, plans were taken to improve the ethics, integrity and professional standards of the new generation of journalists, protect freedom of expression and the media, encourage information-based journalism against corruption, discrimination and injustice, and create public awareness about human rights and social justice.
