In Nalitabari of Sherpur, a BNP leader Faruk Ahmed slapped and freed a youth who was detained for raping a mentally unstable vagabond young woman (25).
The incident took place on Thursday night at Barmari Bazar in Puragaon Union of the upazila. Faruk Ahmed is the General Secretary of Puragaon Union BNP. Due to this incident, extreme tension is prevailing among the locals.
It has been learned that two months ago the mentally unstable young woman (25) came to Barmari Bazar. No one knows her identity. She had been spending the nights on the verandas of various shops in the market. Residents of the market said many traders used to give food to the mentally unstable young woman.
On last Thursday at 2 AM, a youth named Jalal Mia (35) came to the market and raped the young woman. At that time, the market watchmen and local residents caught Jalal Mia red-handed. The villagers wanted to hand over rapist Jalal Mia to the police. At that time, Puragaon Union BNP General Secretary Faruk Ahmed came and slapped the rapist and took him away, said the shopkeepers of the market.
Regarding this, BNP leader Faruk Ahmed denied the incident of slapping and freeing the rapist and said Jalal Mia could be found at any time. Jalal Mia is the son of Jonu Mia of neighboring Kalapani village. There are allegations that Jalal Mia has committed multiple child rapes in the area. But being wealthy, no one dared to take action against him. Currently, extreme tension has spread among the locals centering on the incident of raping the mentally unstable young woman. On receiving the information, the police brought the raped young woman to the police station on Saturday night. In this regard, a case has been filed at Nalitabari police station.
On Monday, the raped young woman has been sent to Sherpur District Sadar Hospital for examination. Confirming the truth of the incident, OC of the police station Sohel Rana said a case has been filed in this regard at the police station. Police operations to arrest the accused are ongoing.
