Coast Guard's rescue operation after two merchant ships collide off Ctg outer anchorage

The Bangladesh Coast Guard launched an immediate rescue and assistance operation following a collision between two commercial vessels at the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port on Friday afternoon.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said this in a press release on Friday night.
According to the official, the incident occurred around 12:30 pm on Friday in the Alpha Anchorage area of Chattogram outer anchorage when the Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker SEA SPIKE lost control and collided with another anchored merchant vessel, SUN SHINE.
The collision caused severe structural damage to SEA SPIKE, rupturing the ship's side hull and allowing seawater to breach its engine room.
Upon receiving information routed through the Chattogram Port Authority’s Vessel Traffic Management Information System (VTMIS), the Bangladesh Coast Guard dispatched a rescue team deployed under Operation 'Surokkha'. The team—utilizing the Coast Guard ship Sonadia, tugboat Promotto, and a high-speed patrol boat—promptly arrived at the scene to carry out emergency containment and rescue efforts.
Coast Guard ship Sonadia remains stationed alongside the damaged vessel to maintain continuous monitoring, communication, and swift response capabilities for any further emergencies, the press release added.
