Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, MP, stated on Thursday that Lalmonirhat holds enormous potential to emerge as a vital economic center in the northern region through targeted development in trade, infrastructure, and agriculture.

Speaking as the chief guest at an exchange meeting organized on the occasion of the 'Hamar Lalmoni' exhibition at the Lalmonirhat Circuit House on Thursday night, the minister emphasized the socio-economic significance of the district.

"Lalmonirhat is not just a district; it reflects the history, tradition, potential, and struggles of the northern region," Minister Dulu said. "The life, livelihood, agriculture, and culture of the people along the Teesta River have laid a unique economic foundation for this region."

He highlighted that the daily lives of the local population revolve around major rivers like the Teesta and Dharla, noting that border trade, agriculture, tourism, and human resources represent immense opportunities.

"If we can expand trade through the Burimari Land Port, improve transport infrastructure, diversify agricultural produce, and foster agro-based industries, Lalmonirhat can transform into an important economic hub for the north," the minister added.

Underscoring the district's rich heritage, Dulu stressed the importance of preserving local culture alongside physical development. "The lifestyle, folk music, traditions, and festivals of this region are valuable assets of our national culture. As we advance with development, we must remain rooted in our heritage and cultural identity."

He reiterated the government's commitment to building Lalmonirhat into a modern, prosperous, and peaceful district by blending tradition with contemporary economic growth.

Chaired by Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Mo. Rashedul Haq Pradhan, the exchange meeting was attended by representatives from various professions and community sectors, including politicians, educators, lawyers, and journalists.
