Huge banned polythene seized in separate Coast Guard drives at Sowari Ghat, Postogola Bridge

The Bangladesh Coast Guard seized a substantial quantity of illegal polythene bags valued at around Tk 54 lakh during two separate operations in Dhaka's Sowari Ghat and Postogola Bridge areas on Thursday night and Friday morning.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon confirmed the drives through an official press statement on Friday afternoon.
According to the official, an operational team from Coast Guard Station Pagla conducted a targeted raid in the Sowari Ghat area around 2:00 am on Thursday acting on a secret tip-off. During the drive, officers intercepted and searched three suspicious hand-vans, recovering approximately 2,000 kilograms of banned polythene worth around Tk 30 lakh. However, no arrests were made as the owners of the contraband goods could not be identified at the scene.
In a separate operation on Friday morning (August 14), the same station conducted a two-and-a-half-hour drive from 6:00 am to 8:30 am in the Postogola Bridge area. Searching a suspicious covered van, officers seized an additional 1,600 kilograms of illegal polythene valued at Tk 24 lakh. The driver and helper of the covered van were released along with the vehicle after signing a formal undertaking (muchleka).
