Coast Guard kicks off plantation drive aligning with national green campaign

Staff Correspondent

In alignment with the government's ongoing environmental initiatives, the Bangladesh Coast Guard has officially launched its Tree Plantation Campaign-2026.

The drive was inaugurated under the national theme, “Beautify the country with tree plantation, Bangladesh ahead of all,” focusing on environmental conservation, mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change, and ensuring sustainable greening across the country.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, the Media Officer of the Bangladesh Coast Guard Headquarters said this in a press release on Thursday noon.

The press release said, the Director General of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, Rear Admiral Md. Ziaul Haq, formally inaugurated the campaign by planting a sapling at the Coast Guard Headquarters on Thursday at 1:00 PM. Simultaneously, synchronized tree plantation programs were executed across all Coast Guard zones, base stations, and remote coastal outposts to maximize the campaign's ecological footprint.

The media officer highlighted that the current administration is emphasizing widespread participation in national afforestation to tackle global climate challenges. He further noted that alongside safeguarding the sovereignty of the nation's territorial waters and ensuring coastal security, protecting the environment remains an inseparable part of the Coast Guard's national mandate.

Through this comprehensive drive, the force has reaffirmed its commitment to helping build a greener, safer, and more climate-resilient Bangladesh.
