One accomplice of the notorious Sundarbans robber Karim Sharif gang was arrested with arms and ammunition in Coast Guard drive on Monday morning.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Harun-or-Rashid informed this in a press release.
According to the press release, based on secret information, a special operation was conducted by Coast Guard Base Mongla on Monday at 6 AM in the Arbhawani canal of the Shibsa River in the Sundarbans. During the operation, one single-barrel gun and three rounds of live cartridges were recovered, and Md. Sohel Hossain Mithu (37), a key accomplice of the notorious Sundarbans robber Karim Sharif gang, was arrested. The arrested person is a resident of Dacope police station in Khulna district. Preliminary interrogation revealed that the arrested individual had been involved for a long time in robbery with the infamous Karim Sharif and had been supplying arms, ammunition, and provisions to the gang.
Due to such sweeping operations by the Coast Guard, the Sundarbans region is gradually becoming free of pirates and robbers. As a result of this operation, fishermen and fishers in the coastal areas can now earn their livelihood safely and without hindrance.
To maintain law and order, the Bangladesh Coast Guard has continued 24-hour patrols and special operations in coastal and riverine areas, significantly improving the law and order situation in these regions. Such operations by the Coast Guard to make the Sundarbans free of bandits will continue in the future as well.
