Dr Nure Alam: A pioneering scholar from Chandpur now Associate Professor at DU Arabic Depat

Dr. Muhammad Nure Alam, an illustrious son of Chandpur district and a prominent academic, serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Arabic under the Faculty of Arts at the University of Dhaka.
In January 2023, he achieved a historic milestone by earning his PhD from the prestigious King Saud University in Saudi Arabia, becoming the very first Bangladeshi student across the faculties of Arts, Social Sciences, Education & Research, and Islamic Studies to obtain a doctorate from this renowned institution.
Born on March 1, 1980, in Baburpara village under Matlab Dakshin upazila of Chandpur district, Dr. Nure Alam is the son of the late Maulana Md. Abdul Hye and the late Mst. Shamsunnahar.
Dr. Nure Alam completed his Dakhil (SSC equivalent) in 1994 and Alim (HSC equivalent) in 1996 under the Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board with brilliant results. He subsequently enrolled in the Department of Arabic at the University of Dhaka, securing the second position in the First Class during his BA (Honours) examinations in 2001, and achieving the first position in the First Class during his MA examinations in 2002.
In recognition of his stellar academic performance in his undergraduate studies, he was awarded the University Grants Commission (UGC) Merit Scholarship. For securing the highest marks among all departments under the Faculty of Arts as well as his own department in his Master's examinations, he was honored with the prestigious Principal Syed Abid Ali and Begum Afroza Abid Ali Memorial Gold Medal, alongside the Kazi Nurus Sobhan Memorial Gold Medal.
Dr. Nure Alam joined his alma mater as a Lecturer in the Department of Arabic in 2008 and was subsequently promoted to Associate Professor. In 2010, he also earned his MPhil degree in Arabic Dialectology from the same department.
In 2015, Dr. Nure Alam received a scholarship for PhD research at King Saud University in Saudi Arabia. In 2023, he successfully earned his PhD from the university's Department of Arabic Language and Literature. His doctoral research dissertation was titled "Contemporary Arabic Usage in Language Teaching in Bangladesh."
He has authored several notable research papers and academic publications.
