Continuous monsoon rains have caused severe waterlogging in Satkhira Municipality and several areas across the district. Nearly two-thirds of the municipal area has been submerged, and people are suffering immensely. Alongside 14 unions of the Sadar upazila, floodwaters have entered homes, roads, and educational institutions in many parts of Tala, Kalaroa, Assasuni, and Shyamnagar, creating widespread public distress.

In this situation, Satkhira District BNP Joint Convener and former municipal mayor Tajkin Ahmed Chishti has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the district administration, demanding urgent action to resolve the waterlogging crisis. He warned, “If the issue is not addressed within this time, a strong protest program will be announced.”

Chishti made the declaration on Sunday evening (6 July) while speaking as the chief guest at a mass outreach and leaflet distribution event organized by the BNP units of Dhulihar, Brahmarajpur, and Fingri unions. The event, held at Brahmarajpur Bazar in Satkhira Sadar Upazila, also raised the demand for implementing the 31-point reform plan announced by BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

Chishti further stated, “In the upcoming national parliamentary elections, Tareque Rahman will nominate a candidate for the Satkhira-2 constituency who is honest, competent, fair, and trusted by people from all walks of life.”

The program was presided over by former General Secretary of Satkhira Sadar Upazila BNP and valiant freedom fighter S. M. Shahidul Islam. Among others who addressed the gathering were District Krishak Dal Member Secretary Rabiul Islam, Sadar Upazila Krishak Dal Convener Anarul Islam, former Swechchhasebak Dal Member Secretary Zakir Hossain Afil, former Krishak Dal President Sohrab Hossain Babul, and former Joint Convener of Municipal BNP and former Councilor Oziar Rahman.

Also present at the event were former Member Secretary of Dhulihar Union BNP Golam Mostafa Babu, Krishak Dal leader Nazmul Hossain, and leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations from the three unions.

Speakers at the event said, “Inspired by the ideals of Ziaur Rahman, the BNP is committed to restoring the democratic rights of the people and ensuring free, fair, and impartial elections. There is no alternative to the 'sheaf of rice' symbol in the upcoming elections.”

Following the event, hundreds of leaders and activists distributed leaflets throughout Brahmarajpur Bazar in support of the 31-point reform plan. The entire program was conducted by Abdul Ghaffar and Shahabuddin Chentu
