Five including child injured with sharp weapons over house occupation in Tahirpur

In an attempt to occupy a homestead in Sunamganj’s Taherpur, a group of miscreants attacked and injured five people, including a child, with sharp weapons.

A case has been filed with Taherpur Police Station accusing 23 individuals over the incident.

The accused in the case are: village quack (rural doctor) Shamsul Haque alias Samsu of Lakma village in Uttar Sreepur Union of Taherpur, his brother Shahid Mia, his sons Al Amin and Sajib, his relatives Taher Mia, Lutfor Rahman, Habibur Rahman, Fazal Haque, Hossain Mia, Dhan Mia, Kala Mia, Kawser Mia, Kalam, Mosha Mia, Mohar Uddin, Shafiqul, Usmas Gani, Mohammad Ali, along with 4–5 unidentified persons.

The case was filed on August 20 with Taherpur Police Station by Bashir Mia, son of Mut Taher Mia of Lakma village.

According to the case statement, for several years Samsu had been trying to buy Bashir Mia’s ancestral land in Lakma village, which is adjacent to the border. Failing to purchase it, on August 19, he along with relatives and a group of miscreants attacked Bashir’s homestead, vandalizing the house.

When resisted, Samsu’s men attacked with sharp weapons, injuring 6-year-old Ariful, Rashid, Dulal, Hekmat, and Lokman. They threatened to kill them if they did not vacate the homestead and left after the attack.

The injured are currently receiving treatment at Taherpur Upazila Health Complex, Sunamganj Sadar Hospital, and Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

On Monday, plaintiff Bashir Mia of Lakma village said that Samsul Haque and his men are threatening him to withdraw the case. They warned that if he doesn’t, they would file a counter-case to send his family members to jail. He also mentioned that his family members are unable to stay overnight at home due to fear of further attacks.

On the other hand, accused Shamsul Haque alias Samsu of Lakma village said:
“The incident occurred because my cousin was not given possession of the land he purchased. After the case, 12 accused appeared in court, and 11 got bail. We did not issue any threats, but we will also file a case.”

On Monday afternoon, OC SI Nazmul Islam of Taherpur Police Station said, preliminary investigation has confirmed the truth of the incident. Some accused have already appeared in court, while police are continuing efforts to arrest the absconding accused.
