Human chain demanding steps to save coastal wildlife, nature

 May 22 marks the International Biodiversity Day. The Day was observed in Shyamnagar, Satkhira, with this year’s theme: “Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development.” Highlighting this theme on Thursday. 
 
A  human chain was organized in front of the Shyamnagar Upazila Press Club. The event was initiated by Sobuj Songhoti, Sundarbans Student Solidarity Team, and Shyamnagar Upazila Youth Volunteer Coordination Committee, with support from the private research organization BARSIC. The program, titled “Save the Coast, Wildlife, and Nature from Saline Water Intrusion,” was chaired by Sobuj Songhoti member and forest-dependent woman, Shefali Bibi. 
 
 Speakers at the human chain included senior journalist and advisor of the Upazila Press Club Sheikh Afzalur Rahman and Abu Saeed; Delwara Begum and Kumud Ranjan Gayen of Sobuj Songhoti; Sobuj Billa of the Sundarbans Student Solidarity Team; fisherwoman Kohinur Begum; forest-dependent woman Shefali Begum; and BARSIC’s regional coordinators Ramkrishna Jowardar, Bishwajit Mondal, S.M. Osman Gani, Maruf Hossain Milon, Borsa Gayen, and Protima Rani, among others.
