To stop the procession of deaths on the roads, Mohammad Abu Sufian, MP for Chittagong-9 (Kotwali) constituency, has promised to control the speed of vehicles , ensure quick emergency services after accidents, and increase the accountability of relevant institutions involved in road safety, while also presenting a draft of a comprehensive road safety law to the National Parliament.

He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a training on road safety organized by the Policy Influence Group (PIG) under the 'Strengthening Road Safety Act and Civil Society Action in Bangladesh' project at Bonjour Restaurant in the city's GEC intersection on Saturday. 

Describing the current situation of road accidents as 'alarming', Abu Sufian said , " Accidents are happening on the roads every day and a large number of people are losing their lives . 

He said , "Speed is a serious problem. The government has already formulated speed guidelines for vehicles on cities and highways. 

Citing examples from different countries in road safety management, MP Abu Sufian said , " The Dubai Road Safety Authority is working very efficiently. If an accident occurs there, an investigation is conducted to find out the reasons behind it. The relevant institutions in Bangladesh also need to be stronger , more efficient and accountable. At the same time, ordinary citizens (passengers) , drivers , transport workers and pedestrians also need to be aware of their responsibilities."

Highlighting his position on road safety, he said , " I will submit a proposal to the National Parliament for the formulation of a comprehensive road safety law ." It must be raised in the interest of the country.

Citing the Chittagong -Cox's Bazar highway, he said that if the road is upgraded to four lanes, it will be possible to reduce accidents to some extent.

The training covered the implementation of road safety laws , speed control , accident prevention , emergency services after accidents, and the role of civil society in road safety. The Policy Influence Group (PIG) is working to implement the road safety law and increase civil society participation in this regard under the 'Strengthening Road Safety Act and Civil Society Action in Bangladesh' project.

The training was chaired by CAB Central Committee Vice President SM Nazer Hossain and was facilitated by Chander Kumar Lahri, Project Coordinator of Steps Towards Development. 

The discussion, moderated by Abu Mosharraf Russell, Member Secretary of PIG Group and News Chief of Dainik Purbadesh, was attended by prominent Bangbadik M Nasirul Haque, CAB Divisional General Secretary Kazi Iqbal Bahar Chhaberi, prominent women leader and CAB Chittagong Metropolitan President Jasmine Sultana Paru, social activist Mitul Das Gupta, CAB Chittagong Metropolitan Organizing Secretary Jannatul Ferdous, Joint Secretary Md.
