
NSTU student gets award from Dr. Yunus on May Day

Shama Zabin Orpa, a student of the Law Department at Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU), has secured third place at the national level in an essay competition marking International Workers’ Day and National Occupational Health and Safety Day 2025.
The award was handed over by Nobel Laureate and Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus at a ceremony held at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka on Thursday (May 1). The event was organized by the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
This year’s competition saw participation from over a hundred university students across the country. Orpa’s essay was highly praised in the final round, earning her a spot among the top three winners.
“I am extremely proud and delighted to receive this award, especially from someone as esteemed as Dr. Muhammad Yunus. It’s a moment I will cherish forever,” said Orpa, adding that the recognition will inspire her to continue working with greater creativity and responsibility.
Orpa's achievement has been widely celebrated within the NSTU community.
Md. Jamshedul Islam, Assistant Professor and Chairman of the Law Department, said, “This accomplishment has enhanced our university’s national standing. It sets an example for other students and motivates them to aim higher.”
NSTU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Ismail also praised Orpa’s success. “Such milestones reflect the potential of our students. Orpa has made the university proud, and we wish her continued success,” he said.
