Plantation Festival by students in Satkhira

Satkhira Correspondent

It was a drizzling monsoon morning, with the earthy aroma carrying the promise of new life. The premises of Dhulihar-Brahmarajpur (DB) Girls’ Secondary School in Satkhira turned into a festival of greenery. In their hands were tiny saplings; in their eyes, big dreams — united under the pledge “Let’s Adorn Bangladesh with Green.” Hundreds of students gathered to take part in this noble cause.

The tree plantation program was organized by Prokriti O Jibon Club (Nature & Life Club) with the support of Banglalink. It was inaugurated by Satkhira Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shoaib Ahmad, who said,

“A tree not only gives shade and fruits, it gives life. If we want to preserve this oxygen bank for our future generations, we must start planting green today.”

It felt as if nature itself had joined the event. The leaves swayed in the monsoon breeze, raindrops sparkled as they rolled down, and the mud clinging to the roots seemed to whisper — “Take care of me, and I will shape your future.”

Channel i’s Satkhira correspondent Advocate Abul Kalam Azad reminded the audience that the club has been working tirelessly for years to protect nature. In the face of climate change threats, today’s plantation is not merely an act of environmental care — it is a pledge to the future.

The program was presided over by Sarfraz Newaz Sagor, President of the school, and conducted by human rights activist Advocate Munir Uddin. Distinguished guests included S M Shahidul Islam, Convener of Satkhira District Freedom Fighters’ Council; Head Teacher Md. Emadul Islam; Prothom Alo Staff Reporter Kalyan Banerjee; Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha and Bangla Vision’s Satkhira Correspondent Asaduzzaman; Dainik Patradut News Editor S M Shahidul Islam; Channel DBC’s Satkhira Correspondent M Belal Hossain; Ekhon TV’s Satkhira Correspondent Ahsanur Rahman Rajib; Dainik Manabzamin’s Satkhira Correspondent S M Biplob Hossain; and Prokriti O Jibon Club’s General Secretary Abdus Samad, along with local dignitaries and journalists.

Each student received two saplings, and their faces lit up with joy. “I will water it every day,” one student promised. Another said, “When it grows, birds will come and flowers will bloom.”

In this touch of green and the gentle monsoon rain, these tiny saplings in young hands may one day grow into a shady forest, covering the earth in a cool, lush embrace.
