Rape of disabled teenage girl of agricultural labourer in Tahirpur

A handicapped teenage girl with impaired limbs and speech, belonging to a marginalized family of an agricultural labourer, has been allegedly raped.
The accused is Alam Mia (35), son of freedom fighter Nurul Islam from the Jungle Village of Kolagao in the border area of Tahirpur, Sunamganj. Alam is a father of three children and a professional smuggler in the border area.
He was arrested by the thana police from his residence on Monday afternoon.
This information was confirmed on Monday evening by Rakibul Hasan Russel, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) of Sunamganj District Police.
According to the victim’s family and the complaint lodged at the thana.
It is learnt that Alam raped the handicapped teenage girl with impaired limbs and speech from the Jungle Village of Kolagao in Tahirpur upazila. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when he found her alone in an empty house. The victim’s mother returned home during the assault, witnessed the incident, and informed the villagers and local mediators.
Meanwhile, the victim’s mother stated that some corrupt village mediators (matabbars) from Alam’s side, including his relatives from the village and neighboring areas, obstructed legal action at the thana and issued various threats.
Duty Officer of Tahirpur Thana, SI Md. Badiuzzaman said, a case was filed on Monday evening by the victim’s guardian under the relevant sections related to rape, and Alam has been arrested in connection with this case.
