 Minister for Road Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Shipping Sheikh Robiul Alam, MP on Saturday called upon all citizens to unite in promoting sports to instill discipline, skill, and responsibility among the youth, while fostering a peaceful society.

He made the appeal as the chief guest at the final match and award distribution ceremony of a football tournament organized by the Green Road Estate Government Employees Social Center at Green Road Government Staff Quarters in Kalabagan, Dhaka.

"Sports extend beyond mere entertainment; they can be developed into a sustainable profession and livelihood. Ensuring financial security for athletes who represent our nation and bring honor to the country is part of the government's electoral commitment, and we are actively working toward this goal," Sheikh Robiul Alam said.

He emphasized that the core beauty of sports lies in enjoying victory while accepting defeat gracefully. "This sportsmanlike spirit must be replicated across society and state institutions. Sports play a crucial role in cultivating mutual respect, tolerance, discipline, and accountability," he added.

Commending the organizers, the minister noted that the Green Road Staff Quarters has maintained a long-standing tradition of social and recreational activities since its establishment in 1958, with government officials and employees contributing to social welfare alongside their official duties. A total of 16 teams participated in this year's tournament.

Highlighting the transformative power of sports for young people, the minister stressed that greater athletic involvement fosters leadership, team spirit, and mutual cooperation among the youth, steering them away from negative influences.

Government officials, employees, sports organizers, athletes, media personnel, and local residents from the Dhaka-10 constituency attended the event. Following the match, the minister presented awards to the championship and runner-up teams.
