Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) A.B.M. Ariful Islam destroyed 2,400 meters of Chinese nets in Mirzapur, Tangail, during a mobile court operation n the beel of Singjuri village of Bhatgram union of the upazila on Monday afternoon.
Upazila administration sources said that the operation was conducted in the morning based on secret information. After the operation through the mobile court, the banned Chinese nets seized were burned and destroyed. The estimated market value of the net is one lakh taka. Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Charha Nahin and police members were present at the time.
Mirzapur UNO A.B.M. Ariful Islam said in this regard that fishing with Chinese nets is a punishable offense.
Native fish species are under threat as all types of fish, including mother fish, are trapped in these nets. Such campaigns will continue in the public interest.
