A woman named Helena Akhter (45) was detained from Faridpur Medical College Hospital on Sunday and handed over to the police by hospital authorities on allegations of fraudulent activities.
Sources from the hospital and local community confirmed that Helena Akhter had long been extorting money from patients despite not being an official hospital employee. She reportedly used a fake hospital ID card to lure patients with false promises, gaining various benefits in the process.
The incident came to light when students from the Boishommobirodhi Chhatra Andolon (Anti-Discrimination Student Movement), along with local residents, caught Helena Akhter red-handed during the afternoon. She was then handed over to Kotwali police. Following the arrest, the hospital authorities filed a case at Kotwali Police Station.
Sub-Inspector Piyush Kanti Biswas of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station said Helena Akhter had been deceiving patients for a long time, pretending to be a hospital staff member. Upon receiving the tip-off, police rushed to the scene and took her into custody. A case has been officially filed against her by the hospital authorities.
