Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr. Almojaddidi Alfesani said that an enlightened Bangladesh must be built by establishing human rights, justice, equality, harmony and human values.

Human rights are not just a matter of theoretical discussion; they are a matter of practice and implementation in every aspect of individual, social and state life. In this regard, it is very important to develop the young generation as aware, responsible and humane citizens.

He made these remarks while delivering the closing speech of a two-day workshop titled ' Human Rights: From Theory to Practice ' organized at the Applied Democracy Lab of Dhaka University on Tuesday.

Prof Mohammad Ainul Islam, Prof. of the Department of Political Science and Director of the Applied Democracy Lab, presided over the program. The workshop was held as a joint initiative of the Applied Democracy Lab of Dhaka University and the Danish Institute for Human Rights .

Prof Dr. Almojaddidi Alfesani said, the ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle called man a political and social being. Man has a responsibility towards society and the state, and the basis of that responsibility is humanity, justice and mutual respect. When human values deteriorate in society, human rights violations increase. Therefore, raising awareness at the individual and social levels is essential for establishing human rights.

The Pro-Vice Chancellor said, Dhaka University has historically provided leadership in the Language Movement, the Great Liberation War and various democratic movements of the country.

Prof Mohammad Ainul Islam said, "Applied Democracy Lab is continuously working to create citizens aware of human rights and develop leadership among the youth.
