A woman was injured and her family's residence was vandalized in an alleged attack stemming from a protracted land dispute in the East Bottoli Barkandaj Bari area under Dattapara Union of Lakshmipur's Chandraganj Upazila on Monday morning.

The victim, Selina Akhter, was admitted to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital following the incident, family members confirmed.

According to Maksud Alam of the victimized family, an attempt was made to evict them from a plot of land they have been possessing for nearly 25 years. Maksud alleged that a group led by Lipi, along with Mamun, Arif, Rafi, Babu, and Zahir, broke into their homestead and vandalized the dwelling house, cattle shed, haystacks, and boundary fences.

When Maksud's wife, Selina Akhter, attempted to intervene, she was beaten indiscriminately, resulting in a neck injury and fractures to her finger joints, family sources claimed.

Selina explained that Ruhul Amin had sold six decimal of land to Lipi, wife of the second brother, Abdur Rahman. Upon learning of the transaction, Maksud approached the court, triggering a dispute over land ownership and possession.

Rejecting the allegations of assault and vandalism, the accused, Lipi, claimed that the conflict stemmed from a dispute over the distribution of inherited family property. She stated that after arbiters demarcated the land boundaries with pillars, Maksud removed the pillars and harvested coconuts from the heirs' portion, leading to a scuffle. She maintained that the altercation was unrelated to the six decimal land she purchased.

Former Chairman of Dattapara Union Parishad, Abul Khair, noted that Maksud originally held 28 decimal of land, half of which had been sold, leaving 14 decimal on site. He stated that local arbiters had measured and demarcated the land in the presence of Ruhul Amin and others, expressing surprise over the subsequent attack on Maksud's home.

The victimized family has demanded a fair investigation and legal action against those involved. Chandraganj Police Station OC  stated that no formal written complaint had been lodged yet, but legal measures would be taken upon receiving one.
