
15 injured in mad dog attack at Kotalipara, panic grips locals

At least 15 people, including a child and a differently-abled man, were injured after being bitten by several rabid dogs in Kotalipara, Gopalganj, on Friday morning. The incident occurred in the Bhangerhat Bazar area, leaving residents in a state of panic.
According to locals, the dogs suddenly attacked pedestrians while they were crossing six bridges surrounding the Bhangerhat Bazar area, indiscriminately biting passersby.
Among the injured, the identities of six victims have been confirmed: Dipto Baidya (12), son of Dipankar Baidya of Narikel Bari village; Sajal Roy (35), son of Niranjan Roy; Sumangal Bairagi (60), son of Sukh Chand Bairagi; speech-impaired Roshmoy Roy (45), son of Sudhir Roy of Tikribari village; Arjun Gain (55), son of Porikshit Gain of Shriful Bari village; and Soikot Majumdar (16), son of Bhudeb Majumdar of Chalitabari village.
The victims received treatment at Kotalipara Upazila Health Complex and from local pharmacies. Following the incident, public movement in Bhangerhat Bazar significantly decreased, while fear spread across surrounding villages.
One of the victims, Sajal Roy, recounted: “I was heading towards Bhangerhat Bazar. As soon as I stepped onto the bridge, a dog came from behind and bit my leg. I later took an injection from a pharmacy.”
Sheikh Mohammad Asaduzzaman, on-duty physician at Kotalipara Upazila Health Complex, said, his morning, six patients came from Bhangerhat with dog-bite injuries. They were given primary treatment and advised to take vaccines.
