 Pabna district administration has stood by 582 helpless and destitute individuals, including taking responsibility for the education of four medical students recently. 

A source from the district administration reported that approximately Tk 3.7 million has been provided as financial assistance. Beneficiaries and related parties have expressed great satisfaction with this type of direct support to marginalized communities.

The district administration stated that prioritizing educational and medical assistance, it has taken responsibility for the full tuition fees and living expenses of four medical students. Among them, Meghla Khatun, a meritorious student admitted to Dinajpur Medical College, is currently receiving a total financial support of Tk 300,000 over the next five years. She is being provided with Tk 5,000 per month to cover tuition fees, hostel rent, food, books, exam fees, and other associated costs. This support will continue for five years. 

The assistance will be given in phases according to the academic year. This same method will be followed for the other students as well. Besides,  582 poor and helpless individuals in the district have been given financial support to cover medical expenses and overcome other crises. This assistance has been provided over the last 8 to 9 months. The district administration also stated that this type of support program is ongoing.

Regarding this, Meghla Khatun, one of the beneficiary medical students, said, “Even after getting a chance in medical school, I was in complete uncertainty about whether I would be able to study. While many others were getting admitted, everything around me was dark. Later, the Deputy Commissioner personally took the initiative, called me, and helped with admission. At the same time, arrangements were made for me to continue studying. If all administrative structures of the country stand by people in this way, then the administration will become a symbol of trust.”

Several recipients of financial support mentioned that many people suddenly fall into hardship and can’t even afford treatment. Some face difficulty in arranging their daughters’ marriages. That is, while trying to marry off daughters, they can’t manage, and sometimes they can’t even afford to bring their daughters back home. Direct support in such sudden crises is usually unavailable. But recently, such assistance has been provided. The helpless are greatly benefited by this. They want this kind of support program to continue. At the same time, they demand expansion of the assistance scope.

In this regard, Pabna’s Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mofizul Islam said, “The real strength of the administration is the trust of the people. I believe that standing beside citizens in their suffering, along with fulfilling state responsibilities, is our professional and moral duty. We are always vigilant to ensure that truly needy people receive support. This humanitarian assistance program will continue in the future. The scope of assistance will be expanded by including other helpless and poor individuals of the district.”
