
Bkash scam : Police recovers Tk 5.5 lakh in Lalmonirhat

A team from the Detective Branch (DB) of Lalmonirhat Police has recovered approximately Tk 5.5 lakh that was lost in a Bkash scam. The recovered amount has been returned to the victim.
OC of Lalmonirhat DB, Sad Ahmed, stated that under the direction of Superintendent of Police Md. Tariqul Islam, a case involving Md. Akbar’s son, Ekramul Haque (37), from Khoddosaptana area of Lalmonirhat Municipality, was investigated. On 31/01/25 at 3:25 PM, an unknown individual called him via WhatsApp from number +61485839804, identifying himself as Sharif Khan and claiming to have an Australian visa. He also mentioned various facilities.
Later, on 31/05/25, the unknown individual again contacted Ekramul from another number, +1289957312, and discussed obtaining an Australian visa. Believing him, Ekramul sent a total of Tk 528,700 in phases to several Bkash/Nagad numbers provided by the scammer. Subsequently, the fraudsters sent fake visa documents and other forged paperwork to Ekramul via email. Realizing the fraud, Ekramul understood that he had been scammed in the name of an Australian visa.
On July 15, he filed a complaint at the office of the Superintendent of Police. The complaint was then handed over to the OC of DB for investigation. The DB team successfully recovered the scammed amount and handed it over to the victim.
According to the DB Police, the recovered money was handed over to the victim through the Superintendent of Police at the Lalmonirhat SP Office on Sunday .
