Coast Guard detained 7 smugglers, seized contraband worth Tk 33 lakh in Patenga

Bangladesh Coast Guard detained seven smugglers and seized illegal imported scrap materials worth Tk 33 lakh smuggled from Myanmar in Patenga, Chittagong.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said this k in a statement issued on Sunday afternoon.
According to the official, an operational team from Coast Guard Outpost Patenga conducted a special raid in the Sea Beach area under Patenga Police Station based on secret intelligence at 7:00 AM on Sunday.
During the drive, Coast Guard personnel boarded and searched a cargo boat in the area, recovering approximately 2,000 kilograms of iron scrap and 20,000 kilograms of old battery scrap valued at Tk 33 lakh, along with detaining seven smugglers on board.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the scrap goods were illegally smuggled from Myanmar via fishing trawlers and subsequently transferred onto the cargo boat to enter the Karnaphuli Channel.
Legal proceedings regarding the seized goods, the cargo boat used in smuggling, and the seven detained individuals have been taken.
