Coast Guard holds awareness meet in Chandpur on fish conservation

The Bangladesh Coast Guard organized an awareness discussion meeting on Sunday in Chandpur to highlight the conservation of fisheries and the prevention of illegal fishing.

Lt. Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, media officer of the Coast Guard, shared the information with the press on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Coast Guard, the meeting was held at 11:00 AM near the Meghna and Dakatia rivers under the initiative of Coast Guard Station Chandpur.

During the session, officials discussed the importance of national fisheries, the prohibition of illegal and banned nets, the necessity of refraining from catching fish during breeding seasons, the preservation of aquatic biodiversity, and sustainable fishing management. Local fishermen also shared their grievances and challenges, and the Coast Guard assured them of full cooperation in resource preservation.

The meeting was attended by Coast Guard officials, district and upazila fisheries officers, representatives of local fishermen's associations, and members of the local fishing community.

The Coast Guard reaffirmed that its public welfare initiatives aimed at protecting national fisheries and preventing illegal harvesting will continue across coastal and riverine regions.
