  Coast Guard detained 7 with dredgers, bulkheads used for illegal sand extraction in Barishal

The Bangladesh Coast Guard detained seven individuals along with two dredgers and two bulkheads for illegally extracting sand from a river area in Barishal.

Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, Media Ifficer for the Coast Guard, disclosed this information in a press release on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Coast Guard, acting on a tip-off, a special team from Coast Guard Station Barishal conducted an operation at approximately 1:00 AM on Saturday near the Charmonai Naindar Char area under Kaunia Police Station in Barishal. During the raid, security personnel caught seven individuals red-handed while they were illegally extracting sand.

Subsequently, a mobile court led by the Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate of Barishal Sadar fined the owners of the dredgers and bulkheads TK 600,000, which was deposited into the state treasury. The detainees were released on a bond, and the dredgers and bulkheads were also released following the legal proceedings.
