Human chain, memo submitted protesting eviction attempt from leased land in Rupsha

Nahid Zaman, Rupsha ( Khulna)

A human chain was held in front of the Upazila Parishad on Sunday at 11 am in protest against the eviction attempt from government leased land by 70 affected families of Rupsha Srirampur area of Khulna.

The affected families present in the human chain said, "We, 70 landless families of Srirampur village of Naihati union of Rupsha upazila of Khulna district, have been living peacefully with our families on the land legally leased through settlement from the office of the Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) in 1980 and have been paying government revenue regularly. But recently, an eviction notice has been issued against us by showing a document from 1990. We feel that such a notice is unfair and harassing. It is violating our long-standing residence, social stability and human rights.

Due to which, the human chain strongly demanded their living arrangements. Ismail Munshi presided over the human chain on behalf of the victim's family. Present at the time were Md. Siddiqur Rahman, Aizul Islam, Abu Hanif, Md. Most Fakir, Billal Sikder, Md. Mahabur Sardar, Murad Sardar, Yunus Sardar, Enayet Sardar, Shariful Sardar, Md. Abu Sheikh, Sourav Sardar, Israel Paik, Zahid Sardar, Md. Nur Islam Sheikh, Shahin, Hishar, Salma, Nur Jahan, Naim, Mura, Chhonia Khatun, Khadija, Jomila, Munu, Jamir, Arun, Meherun, Angura, Farida Begum and other members of the victim's family.

After the human chain, a memorandum was submitted to the UNO.
