Dohar police have uncovered the mystery behind the murder of eight-year-old Labib Pottanadar in Nawabganj Upazila of Dhaka and arrested the main accused on  Wednesday  afternoon.

Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Md. Ashraful Alam of Dohar Circle confirmed the matter through a press release. The arrested accused is Md. Sayem Molla (22), son of the late Jasim Uddin from the Bahra area of Nawabganj Upazila.

According to the press release, on June 27, Labib went missing from his home while playing. After a search, on June 28, with the help of locals, Nawabganj police recovered Labib’s body floating in a pond owned by Sentu Miya in Rasulpur village of Bahra Union. Following the incident, Labib’s mother, Champa Begum, filed a murder case at Nawabganj police station, after which police detained a suspect named Babul Pottanadar, son of Kafil Pottanadar from the Bahra area of Nawabganj Upazila.

Subsequently, on Tuesday,  a team from Nawabganj police, with the aid of information technology, conducted an operation in Mymensingh district and arrested the prime accused in the murder case, Sayem Molla.

The police further stated that during initial interrogation, Sayem Molla confessed that he killed Labib by strangling him due to a long-standing family feud and dumped the body in the pond. The accused was later sent to court, where he voluntarily provided a confessional statement.

It is mentioned  that Labib was the son of Champa Begum and Harun Pottanadar from the Bahra Rasulpur area of Nawabganj Upazila.
