The district-level competition of the National Science Debate Festival 2026 was held with the slogan "Debate Means Logic, Liberation in Science" at the Barguna Press Club auditorium on Wednesday.

Organized by Suhrid Somavesh with assistance from Dainik Samakal and Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC, the day-long festival brought together students from various educational institutions across the district to showcase their analytical skills on science, environment, and contemporary global issues.

The central debate topic for the festival was "Policy formulation alone cannot prevent environmental pollution; increasing public awareness is essential." Debaters argued for and against the motion, with proposition speakers emphasizing behavioral changes and personal civic responsibility, while opposition speakers highlighted the necessity of strict law enforcement alongside public awareness.

Barguna Government College Principal Dr. Md. Matiar Rahman attended the opening ceremony as the chief guest, with Barguna Press Club President Md. Hafizur Rahman and former President Advocate Sohel Hafiz present as special guests. The session was presided over by Samakal Suhrid Somavesh Barguna District Unit President Tariq Bin Ansari Suman.

 Principal Dr. Md. Matiar Rahman stated that debate competitions foster critical thinking and self-confidence among students alongside academic studies, commending Dainik Samakal for regularly organizing science and logic-based initiatives.

Barguna District Council Administrator and District BNP Convenor Md. Nazrul Islam Molla, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Gen and Education) Animesh Biswas, former District BNP Vice President Saleh Faruq, Barguna Press Club General Secretary and Samakal Barguna Representative Abu Zafar Saleh, and Barguna Collegiate High School Headmaster Md. Shahjahan Miah were present among invited guests, teachers, and students.

In the competitive round, Barguna Government Girls' High School emerged as champion of the district-level tournament, while DKP Secondary School secured the runners-up title. Subaita Rahman from the winning team was selected as the best speaker for her logical presentation.
