One hilsa sold at Tk 14,000 at Mahipur Fisheries Port

A hilsa weighing two- kg 500 grams was sold for 14 thousand taka at the Mahipur Fisheries Port in Patuakhali. The fish was sold at Faisal Fish Market of the Fisheries Port on Thursday morning. Hundreds of people gathered to see the fish.
 
Fisherman Shahid Majhi said, "I went to the sea to catch Hilsa and caught this big Hilsa along with other fish. The fish weighs 2 kg 500 grams. When I brought the fish to Faisal Fish in the morning, Ishtiaq, a fish trader, bought it at an auction for 14,000 taka."
 
Faisal Fish owner Md. Mehedi Faisal said, "Large-sized hilsa is not commonly available. The fish was sold for 14,000 taka at a price of 5,600 taka per kg through open auction in the open market."
 
Buyer Ishtiaq said, "I bought the huge Hilsa fish caught in the Bay of Bengal in the hope of making a profit and will send the fish to Dhaka."
 
Kalapara Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Apu Saha said, "Large-sized hilsa is good news for fishermen. Along with the deep sea, coastal fishermen are also now getting large hilsa. The quantity of hilsa is increasing day by day. This is the result of following the government ban."
