Rohingya gathering: Call for concrete roadmap to resolve crisis at UN Int'l Conference
Tawhidul Islam, Cox's Bazar
Ahead of the upcoming “International Conference on the Rohingya Issue” scheduled to be held in New York on September 30 at the initiative of the United Nations, the Rohingya community has urged the UN and the international community to outline a specific roadmap for resolving the crisis. They also appealed for global support to return to their homeland in Myanmar with dignity and security.
The call came during a gathering held on Saturday morning from 9:00 am to 11:30 am at Camp-13 in Thaingkhali, Palongkhali Union of Ukhiya upazila in Cox’s Bazar. The event was organized by a group called “Rohingya Elected Civil Society.”
From the rally, Rohingyas urged the United Nations and the international community to take effective measures in ensuring a safe environment for their repatriation to Myanmar. They also demanded justice for the genocide committed against them in Myanmar.
At the same time, they expressed gratitude to the Government of Bangladesh and the local communities for providing them shelter for over eight years.
The Rohingyas expressed hope that the September 30 conference will pave the way for finding a permanent and genuine solution to this crisis—not only for the Rohingyas but also for the global community.
Currently, more than 1.3 million Rohingyas are taking refuge in Bangladesh, most of whom fled following the ethnic violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine State on August 25, 2025.
