Teesta water above danger level : Flood feared in Lalmonirhat
Sabbir Hossain, Hatibandha (Lalmonirhat)
Heavy rain and water from upstream hills have raised the Teesta River’s water level above the danger mark at the Teesta Barrage in Lalmonirhat.
On Tuesday (August 3), the water level was 5 centimeters higher than the danger line. To control the flow, all 44 gates of the barrage were opened, but water is still rising.
Floodwater has entered many low-lying and char areas in Hatibandha, Patgram, Aditmari, and Sadar upazilas. Croplands and Aman seedbeds are already under water.
Authorities have asked people in these areas to stay alert. The situation may get worse if rain continues. Local officials are watching the situation closely.
