The principal of Nesariah Fazil Madrasa in Mehendiganj, Barishal, has been defying the directives of the Madrasa Education Directorate regarding a librarian whose certificate was proven fake and fraudulent. Despite receiving a final directive to take legal action against the delisted librarian, Shahin Hossain, the principal has not complied.
The Madrasa Education Directorate’s Assistant Director (Finance) and Secretary of the MPO Selection and Approval Committee, Md. Shariful Islam, issued the directive in a letter dated December 24, 2024.
However, more than eight months have passed since the directive was issued, and the madrasa authorities have failed to take any action.
Shahin Hossain was appointed as the librarian at Vashanchor Nesariah Fazil Madrasa in 2017, with a monthly salary fixed at 21,897 BDT. Although his index number has been cancelled, the directorate instructed that the withdrawn salary and benefits must be returned to the government treasury, and a criminal case be filed against him. Yet, no steps have been taken in this regard by the madrasa authority.
The final directive published on the Directorate’s website on December 24, 2024, stated that Shahin was listed under MPO using fake and forged certificates. Therefore, based on the committee’s decision, his index number was cancelled. It also directed the madrasa principal to deposit all withdrawn salary and benefits into the government treasury and to file a criminal case against him, along with submitting proof to the directorate. However, no action has been taken by the principal despite these clear instructions.
In response, the madrasa principal, Mawlana Elias Hossain, told this correspondent over the phone that Shahin Hossain is a local resident and influential in the area, which is why he still comes to the madrasa. He added that a meeting was held with the madrasa managing committee, where it was decided that legal action would be taken against Shahin on August 11 this year.
The madrasa governing body president, Nur Mohammad, said that a meeting was held regarding Shahin based on the committee’s decision. Shahin claimed he had filed a writ in the High Court against the MPO index cancellation. The committee has decided to take legal steps against him on August 11.
