
Task force operation in Sunamganj seizes Indian cloth worth around Tk 2 cr

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and task force members have seized Indian cloth worth around Tk 2 crore during an operation at Sahebbari Ghat in Sunamganj.
A wooden boat carrying a huge quantity of cloth smuggled through waterways by evading customs was seized in the operation conducted in the early hours of Monday. However, the smugglers fled after sensing the presence of law enforcement.
Sunamganj-28 BGB Battalion said that the seized goods include 1258 pieces of Indian sarees, 2231 meters of Punjabi cloth, 1692 meters of pant cloth and 502 pieces of sherwani cloth.
The market value of these goods is estimated at Tk 2 crore 29 lakh 55 thousand 100.
Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Mehedi Hasan Hridoy, Assistant Director of BGDO-315 Md. BGB members including Rafiqul Islam participated. Lieutenant Colonel Zakaria Qadir, commander of BGB's Sunamganj-28 Battalion, said that BGB's intelligence activities and operations have been strengthened equally on land and waterways to prevent smuggling and ensure security in the border area.
