Carrying the dream of “Greening Tomorrow’s Bangladesh,” a wave of greenery is flowing across school and college campuses in Barguna. With the slogan “A Healthy Environment Is Essential for a Prosperous Life,” the Coastal Sun Social Organization (USSAS) has launched a unique tree plantation campaign, entirely funded by the organization itself.
On Monday (4 August) at 11 a.m., the campaign was officially inaugurated on the premises of Barguna Collectorate School and College by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) and Municipal Administrator Animesh Biswas. During the opening ceremony, students helped plant several flower, fruit, and medicinal trees.
Among the guests present were Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Barguna Sadar Police Station Md. Yakub Hossain and USSAS Chief Executive Oliullah Imran.
Students shared their feelings, saying, “These trees will someday give shade and fruit—and we will proudly say, we planted them. The tree we planted today will one day become a cherished memory. We used to only read in textbooks about the benefits of tree planting, but today we truly felt the peace of doing it ourselves.”
Teachers from different institutions commented, “USSAS's initiative has not only instilled a love of trees among students but also planted the seed of environmental awareness in their hearts. We hope this effort spreads nationwide.”
USSAS Chief Executive Md. Oliullah Imran said, “We are conducting a month-long tree planting and sapling distribution program in various educational institutions across Barguna district, based on the belief that a healthy environment is essential for a prosperous life. Protecting the environment requires collective social action. These trees will one day help preserve ecological balance.”
OC Md. Yakub Hossain added, “Protecting the environment is not the responsibility of one organization alone—it is our collective duty. USSAS’s initiative is truly commendable. By handing over trees to students, they have sent a bright message for the future.”
At the inauguration, Additional Deputy Commissioner Animesh Biswas remarked, “This tree plantation campaign is not just about planting trees—it’s an effort to make a generation accountable to the environment. We hope this initiative spreads beyond Barguna to the entire country.”
That same day, trees were also planted at FM School, Oxford Residential Model School, and several other educational institutions in the city. Organizers stated that the program will continue throughout the month.
Other attendees included F M School Chairperson Monowara Karim, Director Md. Asad Zaman, Oxford Residential Model School Director Md. Sajjad Ahmed Jacky Sikder, journalists Kashem Howlader and Md. Hridoy Hossain, USSAS General Secretary Sohag Howlader, Vice President Md. Yakub Hossain, Collectorate School teachers Tariq Bin Ansari Suman and Ahsan Ahmed Noman, teachers from various schools, Mohora’s Md. Naim, and members of the USSAS volunteer team along with students from various educational institutions.
