Four people were reportly killed in a gunfight between two armed regional organizations of the hills, the United People's Democratic Front - UPDF and the Jana Samhati Samiti -JSS, in Dighinala, Khagrachhari, over the issue of dominance.
The incident took place at around 8 pm on Friday (July 25) in the Dolchhari area of the remote Babuchhara Union of Dighinala.
According to police sources, a face-to-face clash broke out between members of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) and the Parbatya Chittagong Jana Samhati Samiti JSS led by Santu Larma in the Dolchhari area of the Babuchhara Union, 4 kilometers south of the Naraichhari BOP of the upazila.
Local sources said that at 8 pm yesterday, the sound of gunfire was suddenly heard, the people of the area were panicked. No one came out of their houses out of fear. This violence has not only caused loss of life, but has also created deep fear and insecurity in the minds of the common people of the hills. The repetition of such incidents repeatedly makes us question - when will this bloodshed stop? When will the air of peace return.
At this time, the two sides fired three hundred to four hundred rounds of bullets. Basically, this incident took place between the two sides focusing on establishing dominance.
In a press release of the organization, UPDF organizer Angya Marma said that he has dismissed the news that four of their members were killed as completely false and rumored, UPDF is not at war with anyone. None of its members have been killed in the war. A special interest group has started false propaganda to tarnish the image of UPDF in this ill-conceived propaganda.
No statement was received from JSS on this matter.
Dighinala Police Station OC Md. Zakaria said that the bodies of the deceased have not been recovered yet, and the police administration is even doubtful whether the bodies will be recovered due to the remoteness of the area.
