
Workshop on improving livelihoods of fishermen, fishing methods, biodiversity in coastal belt held

An awareness workshop on improving the livelihoods of fishermen, sustainable fishing methods, and biodiversity conservation was held on Tuesday morning in Sharankhola, Bagerhat.
The non-governmental development organization "Uttaran" organized the workshop.
The event was held at 10:30 AM at Sharankhola Upazila auditorium. Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury, Project Manager of Uttaran, presented various aspects of the project at the workshop.
Among others, speakers at the workshop included Dr. Al Mamun Jewel (Upazila Livestock Officer), Md. Sohag Khan (Upazila Project Implementation Officer), S.M. Mehedi Hasan (Upazila Public Health Engineer), Sheikh Mohammad Ali (President of Sharankhola Press Club and Daily Ittefaq correspondent), Alomgir Hossain Miru (President of the NGO Coordination Committee), Shishir Kumar Das (Upazila Youth Development Officer), SI Md. Mofizul Islam (Sharankhola Police Station), Assistant Fisheries Officer Md. Rajib Zaman, and Nazmin Nahar (Area Manager of Uttaran).
It was informed in the workshop that Uttaran will implement a 3-year project in the Khontakata, Rayenda, and Southkhali unions of Sharankhola to improve the livelihoods of fishermen by creating alternative employment opportunities and carrying out various programs.
Government officials, journalists, NGO representatives, and fishermen’s representatives were present at the workshop.
