Extortion thru' honey trap in Tongi: 3 members including two women arrested

Police in Tongi, Gazipur, have arrested three members of an organized honey-trap gang, including two women, on charges of luring victims into a trap, unlawfully confining them, assaulting them, intimidating them, and extorting money.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Mosammat Afsana Akter Akhi (28), wife of Abdur Rashid and daughter of the late Ataur Rahman of Boro Dewra area under Tongi West Police Station; Mosammat Jannatul Ferdous Nodi (26), daughter of the late Ataur Rahman from the Mudafa area; and Tarek (19), a tenant of Fakir Market area in Boro Dewra and son of Ruhul Amin.
According to police sources, the incident took place on June 16, 2026, in a sixth-story building near Concept Garments in the Mudafa area under Tongi West Police Station. The victims, Salehin Mia (28) from Fatiamari village in Sherpur district and his friend Titu Mia, were allegedly lured to an apartment by attractive women associated with the gang.
As soon as the victims entered the flat, the suspects locked the door and held them captive. They were then allegedly beaten with iron rods and sticks and threatened with death. The gang reportedly extorted BDT 76,000 in cash and a smartphone from the victims. The accused also threatened to hand them over to the police and implicate them in false cases if they failed to pay money.
Following the incident, victim Salehin Mia filed a case with Tongi West Police Station. The investigating officer, SI (Unarmed) S.M. Mehedi Hasan, conducted an operation using information technology and succeeded in arresting three out of the five gang members within 24 hours.
OC Md. Arifur Rahman of Tongi West Police Station stated that the arrested individuals are active members of an organized honey-trap gang.
