Brahmanbaria Correspondent 

Advocate Harun Al Rashid, Vice Chairman of the BNP National Executive Committee, former State Minister, and five-time Member of Parliament from the Brahmanbaria-3 seat  was laid to rest on Saturday.  He was buried beside his mother’s grave at the Sherpur graveyard in Brahmanbaria town following his third Namaz-e-Janaza.

The final funeral prayers were held after the Zohr prayers at the Brahmanbaria Government College ground on Saturday, led by Maulana Md. Zakaria, the Imam of Moulvipara Jame Mosque. 

Moderated by Alhaj Sirajul Islam, General Secretary of District BNP and Administrator of Brahmanbaria Zila Parishad, a brief memorial discussion was addressed by Khaled Hossain Mahbub Shyamal, MP (Brahmanbaria-3) and BNP Central Economic Affairs Secretary; M.A. Mannan, MP (Brahmanbaria-5); M.A. Hannan, MP (Brahmanbaria-1); and Brahmanbaria Deputy Commissioner Md. Abu Sayeed. Former municipal mayor Hafizur Rahman Molla Kachi, District BNP Senior Vice-President Zahirul Haq Khokon, central BNP leaders Abu Sayeed and Mir Mostafizur Rahman Babul, and his longtime associate Ataur Rahman Kamal also spoke with  representatives from Jamaat , NCC, various political and social organizations, and citizens from all walks of life.

The veteran politician passed away at the age of 87 on Thursday night  at  9:00 PM while undergoing treatment at the Bangladesh Specialized Hospital.

His first Namaz-e-Janaza was held on Friday morning  at  South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. Later that afternoon, his 2nd janaza attended in front of the BNP central office in Nayapaltan  after Asr prayers. Senior central leaders, including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Speaker of Parliament, and BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, attended the prayers in Dhaka.
