Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed has urged the fresh students of Rajshahi University to develop into capable individuals for the country and society by enriching them with human values, ethics and sense of responsibility in addition to their talent.

He made the call while speaking as the chief guest at the freshman program of Rajshahi University (RU) for students admitted for the 2025-2026 academic year on Saturday.

Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed said, university admission is very competitive. Those who have got the opportunity to get admission in Rajshahi University are the most talented among the talented. The journey of excellence of their talent and fulfillment of their dreams that has started through admission must be continued. If people do not dream, dreams do not come true.

He said, "Students have come to the university to enlighten themselves with the light of knowledge. They have to enlighten their country and society with the knowledge, talent and creativity they have acquired.

Mentioning that one of the objectives of education is the development of human values, the UGC Chairman said, "Along with acquiring knowledge, students should become people with human values.

He urged students to engage in research, sports, debates, cultural activities, volunteering, technology and innovation in addition to their studies.

The event was presided over by RU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Md. Faridul Islam. RU Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Admin) Prof Md. Abdul Alim and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Prof Mamunur Rashid were special guests. Student Advisor Prof AHM Khurshid Alam and Proctor Prof Md. Mahbubur Rahman also spoke.
