Police arrested 5 people including Sohel Rana, the snatched accused, in connection with the attack and vandalism at Lalmonirhat’s Patgram police station, snatching of accused and laying siege to the police station.
Among them, the convener of the Swechchhasebak Dal of that upazila was also arrested in a case for laying siege to Hatibandha police station.
With this, police so far arrested 9 people in two days in this incident.
They were arrested through a joint operation from early Saturday morning. Earlier on Friday night, 4 people were arrested. So far, police have arrested a total of 9 people.
On the other hand, in another case filed for laying siege to Hatibandha police station, 2 people were arrested on Saturday. In the case filed by Hatibandha police station’s ASI Shahedul Islam on charges of obstructing government work, blockade and threats over laying siege to Hatibandha police station, names of several leaders of Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, Krishak Dal and Chhatra Dal are mentioned.
The number 1 accused of the Hatibandha police station case, Nurunnabi Kajol, was arrested on Saturday. The other arrested is Mahfuzur Rahman Biplob.
Meanwhile, in the Patgram police station case, 3 people were arrested on Saturday night, including Sohel Rana, the accused who was sentenced by the mobile court and snatched from the police station. In 2 days, a total of 7 people have been arrested in the Patgram police station case.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patgram police station Mizanur Rahman confirmed the arrest of Sohel and the other 3.
Officer-in-Charge of Hatibandha police station Mahmudun-Nabi said, in the case of laying siege to Hatibandha police station and obstructing government work, number 1 accused Nurunnabi Kajol along with another was arrested. Operations are ongoing to arrest the accused.
In connection with such incidents, BNP and Jubo Dal have expelled 2 leaders.
Due to the police station vandalism and snatching of the accused, a tense situation still prevails across the area. Locals have also demanded that innocent people not be implicated in this incident.
Lalmonirhat District Superintendent of Police Md. Tariqul Islam, confirming the arrest of 9 people through separate operations, said that operations are continuing. Whoever the criminal is, they will be arrested and brought under the law.
