A joint operation by the Bangladesh Coast Guard and the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection has seized a massive quantity of adulterated lube oil, raw materials, and manufacturing equipment from an illegal recycling factory in the Karnaphuli area of Chattogram.

 Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon disclosed the information on Tuesday afternoon, confirming that the unauthorized facility had been engaged in processing used and spoiled oil to market counterfeit lubricants.

Acting on a tip-off regarding the illicit trade, a coordinated team comprising personnel from Coast Guard Base Chattogram and the provincial consumer rights unit launched the raid on Monday, June 22, 2026, at around 3:00 PM. The drive targeted a manufacturing plant located in the Dangarchar area under Karnaphuli Police Station, where a thorough search uncovered extensive stockpiles of adulterated lubricants alongside various heavy machinery and raw chemical components used in the illegal processing cycle.

Following the operation, the Assistant Director of the consumer rights directorate penalized the factory management in accordance with the Consumer Rights Protection Act, realizing a fine of Tk 3 lakh from the owners for the unauthorized manufacturing and hoarding of counterfeit oil. The penalized amount was subsequently deposited into the government treasury, and the law enforcers sealed the factory premises, ordering a complete shutdown of all operations for the next 15 days.

 Legal procedures regarding the disposal and final forfeiture of the confiscated lubricants, raw components, and manufacturing equipment have been taken. 

The  Coast Guard's firm stance against such fraudulent businesses, emphasizing that the force will maintain its rigorous monitoring and enforcement drives in the future to safeguard consumer rights and protect public interest.
