Convicted fruit trader Manik evades arrest for 5 years in Chunarughat Chunarughat (Habiganj) Correspondent
Chunarughat police have failed to arrest Manik Mia, a fruit trader convicted in multiple cases, even after five years.
In September 2021, Mohammad Shahidul Amin, judge of the Habiganj Joint District and Sessions Judge's 1st Court, sentenced Manik Mia—proprietor of Nadia Fal Bhandar in the Madhya Bazar area of Chunarughat municipal town—to one year of rigorous imprisonment, a fine of Tk 5 lakh, and an additional three months of simple imprisonment in Sessions Case No. 894/2019, which involved a dishonored check. Alongside this verdict, several other arrest warrants and conviction orders related to financial embezzlement and fraud are pending against him.
Victims of his alleged fraud claim they face financial ruin after falling into traps set by the trader. According to local sources, Manik Mia is currently in hiding at his father-in-law's residence in Richi village, Habiganj, and occasionally makes clandestine visits to his home in Amkandi village.
When contacted, Chunarughat Police Station OC Md. Saiful Islam stated that multiple warrants, including conviction orders, remain active against Manik Mia.
