BNP Acting Secretary General and Prime Minister's Political Adviser Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today said the government has declared zero tolerance against extortion and terrorism.

"Police detained 472 people in searches conducted only in Dhaka yesterday. We have declared zero tolerance against extortion and terrorism," he said.

Rizvi made the remarks while addressing a rally as the chief guest in front of Polwel Market adjacent to Abdullahpur in Uttara at 3pm.

Dhaka Mohanagar North BNP organized the rally protesting attempts to destabilize the country through planned acts of terrorism.

Rizvi said the much-awaited democratic victory was ushered in on February 12 through many sacrifices and self-sacrifice.

He said those who steal public money and loot property would have to flee the country. "They may enjoy the benefits for some time, but history shows that everyone has eventually had to flee," he added.

Mentioning the fuel crisis, the veteran BNP leader said, "Prices are rising due to the global crisis."

Referring to various initiatives of the Prime Minister, Rizvi said the Prime Minister was holding discussions with different countries over the fuel crisis.

"It costs us Tk 205 to purchase one litre of diesel, while we sell it at Tk 115. We have provided a subsidy of Tk 90 per litre so that the people do not suffer. We have increased the price by only Tk 20. In India, the price is now Tk 140.60 per litre. As diesel was sold at Tk 115, it would be smuggled and taken to other countries," he said.

Dhaka-18 constituency lawmaker and joint convener of Dhaka Mohanagar North BNP S M Jahangir Hossain presided over the rally.

Leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations at different levels attended the rally.
