
Jubo League leader held in Ashulia for murder, drug charges

Police arrested Shariful Islam Molla (40), a key suspect in the murder case linked to the anti-discrimination student-public movement and a top drug dealer, during a special operation in Dhaka’s Ashulia area.
Acting on a tip-off, law enforcers apprehended the accused on Saturday night near the traffic police box at the Baipayl tri-intersection in Ashulia. On Sunday, he proceeded before the court.
Shariful, a resident of Jamgora in Ashulia, is the son of Haji Md. Wahed Molla is a known leader of the local Ashulia unit of the Jubo League. According to police sources, he had been running drug operations across different parts of Ashulia for an extended period.
Police said Shariful is accused in multiple cases, including murder and narcotics charges. He had been in hiding since August 5 last year, following the fall of the Awami League government.
Ashulia Police Station OC Md. Abdul Hannan confirmed the arrest, stating, “Shariful Islam Molla has been sent to court. He is accused in several serious cases including murder and drug trafficking. Legal actions are underway.”
