About 200 families of Asrayan and Adarsh villages of Bardpur village of Mainam UP upazila have become waterlogged due to continuous heavy rains and water coming down from upstream in Manda of Naogaon.

For 3 days, the stoves of more than a hundred families did not light because of water entering the residential houses. About two hundred families are eating dry food instead of cooked food. The water-logged people are in panic as the infestation of snakes and leeches has increased in the waterlogged areas.

Water started entering the village from Thursday afternoon. At present, the entire area has accumulated knee-deep water. As a result, houses, kitchens and stoves are submerged in water. Children, elderly women, men have suffered greatly.

It can be seen on the ground that water has entered the houses of most of the families. As there is no cooking facility, dry food is their only hope.

Biojid Hossain, a resident of the village, said, 'water started entering the village from Thursday afternoon. Now the entire area is knee-deep in water. The cooking stove has sunk, water has also risen in the house. I could not eat cooked food for three days.

In this situation, on Saturday noon, the local MP Dr Ikramul Bari Tipu, local administration has distributed dry food including saline, candles, and molasses among 200 water-affected families.

UNO Akhtar Jahan Sarthi, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Ariful Islam, Mainom UP Chairman Anichar Rahman, Mainom Union BNP President Saharul Islam and local social workers were present.

She said, it is not a flood.Flooding caused by sudden heavy rainfall. After receiving the news quickly, I visited the area last Friday. Saline, candles and dry food were distributed among the water-logged families under the immediate instructions of the MP.
