Protest, human chain demanding replacement of Jamaat’s MP candidate in Pabna Sadar Constituency

A section of party activists organized a protest and human chain demanding the cancellation of the nomination of Jamaat-e-Islami’s MP candidate Principal Iqbal Hossain, the district Nayeb-e-Ameer, in Pabna Sadar-5 constituency for the upcoming national election.
They accused him of deviating from party ideology, extortion, corruption, and collusion with the accused of the July uprising case. At the same time, they demanded that Maulana Abdur Rahim, a member of the Central Majlish-e-Shura, be nominated as the party’s MP candidate for the constituency, claiming him to be a more competent leader.
At the human chain held on Friday afternoon at Pushpapara Bazar in Sadar Upazila, speakers stated that Maulana Abdur Rahim, a close associate of former MP and Jamaat’s Central Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Abdus Subhan, played an instrumental role in establishing the Jamaat organization in Pabna. With sacrifice, honesty, popularity, and efficiency in his political life, he is more qualified than any other candidate in the district. However, Jamaat’s central council bypassed him and nominated Principal Iqbal Hossain for the MP post.
The speakers further stated that after the mass uprising on August 5, Principal Iqbal became involved in various misdeeds and lost the moral eligibility to be a Jamaat candidate—something the central leaders are also aware of. Taking this into account, they urged the Jamaat central council to immediately nominate Maulana Abdur Rahim as the MP candidate for Sadar constituency. They also distributed leaflets listing the misdeeds of Principal Iqbal.
Among others, Ataikula Union Parishad Jamaat Vice President Nawab Ali, former member of Ward No. 2 Mofazzal Hossain, Ward No. 8 Jamaat leader Abdul Haque Anwari, and a large number of supporters participated in the human chain.
